I'm thinking of buying one those light boxes that simulate sun
light. Every winter I feel like a bear that needs to sleep though the
cloudy winter weeks until the spring sun reappears.
I have to drag myself out to the garage when the sun is not out,
it's really weird, but the sun effects my mood.

The sun affects my mood too, I'm bitchy 'cause I can't get any work done
because it's dark by the time I get home from my real job

Many years ago I was in Resolute,NWT,its on Cornwallis Island, way up near
the north pole.Days go from sunlight all the time to only dusk for an hour
in the middel of the day, then dark again.I never stayed long enough to get
used to it.

I think it has to do with living so close to the coast, or more
correctly, so far to the eastern edge of the time zone - there is a
noticable difference between Annapolis/DC and Pittsburgh (where I grew
up - same time zone) as to what time it gets dark. And it sucks! I
don't mind driving to work in the dark, but I really REALLY hate coming
home at 5:30 and it being dark already.

Nate,
Take that a little farther.... Indiana is also on the same time you
are (600 miles west). It is light later but it is also dark later in
the morning...
One nice thing about not changing our clocks twice a year is you don't
get thrown for 2 months' worth of natural daylight vs. time evolution
overnight.

I understand, same here, it's just getting light as I drive to work and
dark when I leave... I least I don't have to feel guilty about not doing
anything to the yard <G>.

Don't even consider a move to Tulsa. We get about 3 weeks of winter here.
Sometimes, we even get snow. ("and the skys are not cloudy all day", The
corn is as high as a elephants eye, etc). We have community picnics every
weekend, etc.
We do have a large Greek festival here in late summer, and both Greek
families attend.
Our back yard swimming pools never need to be covered, and one may work
outside as long as one desired to.
And now, for the rest of the story......
Tulsa was just recognized as Oklahoma's most dangerous city, With OKC
running 2nd. (sometimes, when I have to work in the center of Tulsa after
hours, and my two friends come with me. Mr Smith, and Mr Wesson)
On the other hand, Tulsa's "bedroom community" of Broken Arrow, was voted
Oklahoma's most safe city.
On the serious side, we do have very mild, short winters here. I am
originally a Yankee from upstate NY, and appreciate the winters here.

I have a friend who lives on the outskirts of beautiful, sunny
Buffalo. He made a "Hawaii" room. Hot tub in the floor, rock water
fall, sand beach, glass insulated (2 layer) roof, hundreds of tropical
plants and sun lights that simulate an abreviated day. Spent
thousands. Moved here to Arizona in the seventies and only returned to
run the family business and take care of his mother. Missed the sun so
much he built this room. His wife and he enjoy a evening libation
every winter day after work, a 1/2 hour or so does the trick. Says it
was the best investment he ever made. Of course he has the $$$$ to do
it. The only problem is he is a f--d guy. KM >> Stay informed about: winter blues |

SADS = Seasonal Affective Disorder Syndrome
Not enough sunlight make people cranky.
Options:
1. become independently wealthy and live a dual hemisphere lifestyle -
winters in OZ or Argentina, summers in MD
2. Put the light in the shop and do some sunlight / Studebaker therapy every
day.
