what did they use for a I.D. number on 1937 chevys? I bought a project
several years ago that had a vin" number on the title that I couldn't find
anywhere. the only number I have found is a body number on a plate on the
firewall. Can anybody help?

thanks,

Tony

I could be wrong (lots of practice) but it may be on the frame underneath
the firewall on the driver's side.

I had the body off for about 6 months and didn't see a vin number anywhere
on the frame. I've had several people tell me that GM didn't have VIN
numbers on the cars in 1937 but did have the chassis numbers on a plate
attached to the firewall. That plate is long gone on this project although
I do have the Fischer body plate. I've also been told that a lot of people
used the engine I.D. number for the registration. This car hasn't had the
original engine in it for over 20 years so that isn't good either. thanks
for the reply I'll work it out with the state!
