Once again, my 9-5 is refusing to let go of a wheel, sadly, on this
occasion, two of them! It seems to be suffering from electrolytic corrosion
or similar. Out of the 10 bolts holding on the two front wheels, the local
garage could only extract 5 (none of them the locking wheel nuts, one in
each wheel) even with a 3/4" air powered wrench. Any suggestions about how
to get these things off?
I have had one set of bolts destroyed by one SAAB dealership on this car
before, and had one whole wheel destroyed by the thermal lance deployed by a
different SAAB dealership. I'd quite like to chose to recondition the
alloys rather than replace them!

Any (polite) suggestions gratefully accepted.

Peter.

A VERY long pole on a wrench. Those air things are weenie. And get them to
torque them properly next time (as if ).

Do you have the bolts with an integrated washer?

If not, you should take care because the bolts can easily break. I did
break two of them before Saab made a replacement of the bolts to the new
type with an integrated washer. If you manage to remove the bolts make
sure that you lubricate the bolts with copper paste. Copper paste (or
aluminum paste) should also be applied on the rims to avoid corrosion
when making contact with the brake discs. I have discovered that the 9^5
discs corrode very quickly if you don't apply some treatment, 3 - 4
times faster than for instance the 9000 discs.

If properly lubricated the bolts normally come off very easily by hand
force only.

Went to Kwik-Fit for replacing a damaged tyre on my 9k, the oik used a meter
long pole wrench and stamped on it. Probably he was told so to avoid litigation
from the wheel falling off.
