Post subject: sounds coming from engine

Whenever I drive my 2001 Mercury Sable I start to hear a blowing sound coming from the engine. But when I slow down or stop I don't hear it anymore. Does anyone know what could be the problem?

Engine on 5 or 4 cylinders - I have a bad rod bearing on my 94 Sable and I want to replace the engine but not in the winter. If I disconnect the spark plug and injector so that the affected cylinder doesn't fire will the engine last longer? The engine will shake a bit. Will that..

Fuel in engine oil - the fuel pump is a definate possibility. the next is an internal leak in the fuel system. I believe that has a carbuerator on it. The bowl may be leaking down. It will start ok due to the fuel in the intake, then the bowl gets replentished really..

questions on an 82 302 engine - I need to know what the correct spark plug gap and ignition timing are for a 1982 302 engine double barrell automatic tranny. I also need to know if gas comming out of the top of the carborator would be a vacuum problem.

"Check Engine Light" on, but no DTC. - It's on my 1999 Ford Windstar. I just cleared the codes (I think they are P13171 and P13174), but "Check Engine Light" won't go away as previous occassions. It runs fine. Has any one encountered this problem? Alex.
