I just had the latest patch installed on my 2002 ES300, TSB004-03, and it
has been working well for the past week. Bear in mind that it takes about a
month for problems to resurface following an ECU reset, so I need to give it
another few weeks before I'll know for sure that the transmission lag is
finally fixed. I believe this newest version will be inserted into their
production line, if it hasn't been done already. But any vehicles that were
already out the door when it was released may have the previous version.
The reason I say all this about my ES when you asked about the RX is that
the technology is shared among all their vehicles, so it is reasonable to
assume any ES transmission fix would make its way to the RX line as well.
My personal opinion is that I believe the latest tweak is a positive one,
and they may have done just enough to make it manageable. That said, Toyota
and Lexus are the most reliable cars on the market, and I recommend that you
not have reservations about a new RX330 if it is within your budget.
