removing headlamp mechanism

Hello someone,

Thank you for your advice,

I wondered how to get the shaft through the bearing. There is a fixture on
the shaft end with which to connect to the motor drive shaft in the engine
compartment. That bit can't go through the bearing obviously. How to do
that? I thought the lamp assembly had to come off the shaft before sliding
on the bearing.

I was wondering about that as well.

I don't recall how the get the headlight bucket off the shaft. Actually
don't think it does, but then how does the bearing get on?

If you're still stuck, post this weekend and I'll look around my garage
for one. I think one is out there. Somewhere.

Well, I found out. It appears that the headlamp is secured by two pins that
run through the lamp and the axis. Now I have to find out if these pins can
be removed from the assembly....

Yep. Just was looking at a salvaged part. Two rolled pins hold the
latching arm to the shaft. The headlight bucket slides around the shaft
when it's not latched down.

Anyways, looks like a tough one to get. If you can get those two pins
out, and remove the center section of the lifting bar, you'll be able to
get that bearing in. Hope that doesn't mean taking the fender off. Not
easy getting the bolts into the firewall or into the bumper cover off.
