Archived from groups: alt>autos>dodge>trucks (more info?)

Folks,

I have lurking around for 2 months now and am totally convinced I want
to get a CTD! I'm not new to DCX products and own Jeep Cherokee and a
TJ. The jeep is now getting tired and we recently got a cottage and
snowmobiles and also own a 25' boat. Sooo, justification for a diesel
is there. Wife and kids are onboard.

It took me while to digest and accept the $50K Invoice Canadian (05,
2500, Stick, CTD, Laramie + few options). I need help in deciding what
to do.

I work for a supplier to DCX so getting invoice is not a problem. I
have been waiting for DCX to announce some deals and/or rebates for 2
months now and nothing - nothing for 05 except 1.8% financing for 36
months. We pay 15% taxes here in Ontario and that's a killer. So I
check for 04's, since DCX will eat one tax and give $500 .Our friendly
dealer found 2 for me 5000km away - in BC!! And he will sell to me at
invoice. I asked for a better deal since in 3 weeks it will be a year
old!! They would not do it!!

So, the only difference between a 05 and 04 is savings on 1 tax - 4k.

My options are:

1. Order 05 now and hope some rebates will be there by delivery time
(Feb 05). Has DCX in the past offered rebates on model year trucks
early in the year? Anyone know.

2. Buy the 04 and save invoice - 4K. I would think they would offer
some credit for depreciation!!

What would you do? Anyone from Canada would like to share the price on
their recent purchase?

Thanks guys. I have not even considered GM or Fords - stuck to this
forum everyday and am convinced Dodge is the way to go - besides they
look awesome!!

Can't help you with your dilemma. Like you I have been thinking of making
the step to such a purdchase. You mention 50 K invoice. Sounds pretty high
even with Canada/US conversion, but I guess you have your figures.

Taxes like that sound tough. It is about 6% here in most localities -- if
you live in a town. I don't live in a town, so don't have to pay any city
tax, which helps.

Buying at the end of the year like this, means that you pay a whole year of
property tax on the vehicle -- here about $600. If you wait until after the
first of the year, you don't pay for 2005, since you didn't own it on the
first day of the year -- assessment day. Hence, there are usually some
deals coming along at the end of the year to entice you to make that
purchase and save the dealer from paying the property tax on the vehicle.

In the US there is $2500 rebate on the 04's and $1,000 on the 05's. I don't
know if they will get better after the first of the year.

My local dealer has offered to sell a 05 for Invoice - 3%, so doesn't sound
too bad. He just doesn't have what I want right now, and I don't want to
order.

A guy that is willing to spend that kinda dollars on a truck could be one
not likely to put 300,000 on this truck; therefore, you need to factor in
the depreciation at trade in time. One year of depreciation will be worth
"X" dollars. Miles seems to be the biggest factor in value, but model year
still carries some weight.

If you come up with any epipheny, let me know -- I'm still looking.

Phil

Really. I wondered how that would work. I notice that Lou Fusz from St.
Louis has several advertised on EBAY. They also will sell a new truck for
invoice less 3%.

I can go the ebay route - I do have a few questions though:

1. What about duties and taxes to bring the vehicle from from US to
Canada?
2. Can the vehicle be registered in Canada?
3. Will Daimler Chrysler honour the warranty?

Would love to hear from folks who have imported US->CAN or US dealers
who have sold to Canadian.
