My dad has a 1957 belair.
He loves it to death, but every show, competition, or drive down the
block puts him into cardiac arrest because, of course, the car is
worth so much.
He wants to sell it any buy something he can actually drive and enjoy
without a heartattack, like a 2008 mustang or 2008 camero....
In anycase, we are looking at selling it online. I am an eBay lover. I
buy and sell on it all the time, but I dont think it is the right
place to sell this beauty (1990 National first place winner by Antique
Automobile Club of America... an award my dad cant help but remind me
of each time I visit.)
Autotrader.com and cars.com certainly dont fit the bill either in my
opinion. And a google search of "classic cars sell buy" gives me more
results than I can choose from.
So I am asking this group if they have good experience on any
particular websites for selling classic cars... which get the most
hits, allow the most pics, and heed the quickest and/or highest priced
sales.
Mom says it shouldnt go for less than 100,000 and dad (more
reasonably) would settle for 85,000.
Eitherway, I seek opinions.
Thanks in advance!

A car's worth what the next person will give you for it, nothing more and
nothing less. Beyond that, it's worth the pleasure of driving it, of shining
it up, of tinkering under the hood, and the joy of ownership.
I know this isn't the answer you wanted, or the lecture you needed, but it
sure is sad that your father can't enjoy his car.

Perhaps it runs in our blood. We love classic cars, but cant stand to
own them. I owned a BEAUTIFUL 92 corvette. I learned to hate it. It
was so beautiful that ever little scratch or even a rainstorm made me
shiver with worry.
I sold it and bought a 1999 toyota truck and love it to death because
I get it dinkged up and scratch and shrug my shoulders and say "Well,
it IS a truck" and laugh. I am much happier.
In any case, anyone have some sites since that was the main question I
asked?
Thanks in advance!

you, but in doing so, you actually offered some good information,
advice, and suggestions... so I guess I am glad I got that out of you.
Thanks!

Count me in as a sort of 2). I've never bought an antique car off the
Internet and I've still got the two I bought in-person, and so have never
sold one, in-person or online.
Sorry we couldn't be of more help.

I didn't know that you had made any points that needed proving....why don't
you and your wife write a book on internet etiquette? And since you chose
to insult me, be sure to be the first to read it.
You wrote
" And a google search of "classic cars sell buy" gives me more results than
I can choose from"
so I suggested a different search "collector car auctions" - a set of
keywords which would yield hits on outfits like Barrett-Jackson, Cox
Branson, and Carlilse, places that the cream of the crop are sold.
Those venues, where collectors with cash in hand gather for the express
purpose of buying desirable cars will net you the most for a particularly
nice piece of iron.
You obviously think your Dad's Belair is unique and highly desirable (if its
still in anywhere near the same condition it was 17 years ago (1990) when it
won the award you crowed about) and you tossed out figures of 80 and 100K,
which is quite high for a Belair, even a if it were a convertible.
If it IS that good, then you' will want to offer it for sale at real,
in-person, inspect, and "kick the tires" auction, rather than online in the
"cesspool of the internet".
Selling it anywhere online will require dealing with the 16 year old kids
who bid rediculous amounts then bail, or deal seekers looking to buy a
Ferrari for a Yugo price. Relisting over and over till you find the right
buyer can be an option, but if you're serious, then take it to the pros.

Heh. Jazz, Robin was talking about you.
Robin's final sentence is the advice--good advice--that all the
posters you have been complaining about are trying to give you.
Bottom line, there really ISNT any good online place to sell a car
such as you describe, and BTW if it isn't a no-post (hardtop) or
convertible, it isn't the car you describe anyway. There are VERY few
tri-five Chevies in that price range. What few there are, reach that
price at the auctions such as B-J and RM, NOT on-line.
