I have an 04 Malibu 39010 miles now(i've had it since Aug. 22 2005) and when
i make a hard turn left or right there is a noise like grinding coming from
the front of the car. Does anyone know what this might be?

Wheel Bearing? CVC Joint (another bearing)

Bearings or joints are quite possible, but I would check the front brakes
first. I went through this a while back and I was all over that car looking
at everything. I finally found a stuck inner pad that had worn down to the
backing plate. To be honest, it didn't sound or act like a brake issue at
all, more like a wheel bearing problem. Fooled me.

The good news is that fixing the brakes is a whole lot cheaper than a new
bearing or drive axle. Good thing, because Malibu owners have to be very
familiar with front brake repair - welcome to the club.

Sad I hope this is not the case for you. Please read this link immediatly and perhaps you should call your dealership first thing to have this looked at.

This link is people talking about the stearing wheel making a grinding noise then the steering stops working all together.
