Archived from groups: alt>trucks>chevy (more info?)

Hello - I am shopping for some decent floor mats for my 2000 Silverado ext
cab. The weathertech.com site lets you specify the make, model, year, etc
They then ask, "New or old model? Applies to 1999 - 2002". The mats look a
little different when you choose one or the other. How can I tell if I have
new or old model? Whats the difference? Google didn't help much. Could be
different breaks or a more rounded body style? Its a Z71 stepside if that
helps. Can I tell from the VIN?

Thanks!

The body style changed in 2000. I have a 2000 Xhevy C2500 old body style.
It is square looking on the fenders. The new body style has rounder look.
Call your dealer ship and ask the parts guy to tell you by your VIN.

I am not aware of any difference other than starting in 01 they had to extend tranny hump towards passanger side to accomidate the Allison tranny so the flat floor is smaller on passager side of truck in later models. They is also some confussion from the fact that both style of trucks were made in 99 (the Classic and the Silverado) and the Classic was still made in 2000 as a C/K 3500 and as a cab and chassis.

Thanks for the reply. Anyway to look up new or old online? Any other visible
differences?

I also have a '02 suburban. The hood lines look, quite possibly, identical.
The interior appointments are almost identical. Would this suggest I have
the 'new model;?

They still made the C/K style (88-up) in those years when the new Silverado
came out. New refers to the body style that was introduced in 1999 (similar
to the current Tahoe/Suburban). Old refers to the C/K 1500 style.

It is a good possibility. Send me your e mail address to
sarge7.DeleteThis@rtconline.com. I will take a digital picture of the old body style I
have for you to compare. You will need to confirm your e mail address for
it to go through.

THe difference is in the floor pan on 99 thru 01 Siverados. (not the hood) The passenger side floor mat is narrower on the new model Silverado vs the older one (99 to 01) and the classic trucks 88 thru 99 (2000 with C/K3500) are different completely

If it is the same hood/front end as your '02 suburban, it is the definately
"new".

New body style yes but the floor pan on 99 and 2000 Sivlerados is not the same as the later modles but you seem to be avoiding that. The front floor mats are different for those models dahh...

The OP knows the year model of the truck. He needs to know if it is the new
or old body style. If it is the same front end as his 02 SIlverado, t is the
"new" listing he is looking for. If it is not the same hood, it is the "old"
(88-up) style he is looking for. The question he is pondering is Silverado
vs C/K 1500.

OK - Thanks all for your replies.

I'm more confused now. The reason I'm asking is because I want to get some
fitted floor liners or mats. Weathertech website only asks me if I have the
'New or Old' model. From replies here it is possible that I could have a new
body style yet an old style trans, and hence different floor contours?

If its true that new model doesn't necessarily mean new model. Then I may
just wing it. I am assuming I have the new model based upon Yadayada's 1st
post.

I also read somewhere that new model has 4w disc brakes. I think I have
that. What is weird - My carfax report (I just bought the thing) describes
the vehicle as "2000 Chevrolet K1500 Silverado", they also describe it as a
3 door ext cab but mine has 4 doors, not 3.

Yea yea, call the dealer. Thanks again all.

There are two new style Silverados floor pans not counting the older 99 back classics or 2000 c/k3500's. The floor pan was modified in 2001 to accomidate the allison tranny and the passanger side flat floor is narrower than on the 99-00 models as I said before. The reat of the body on 01 ones and newer is basically the same except for grill work as a 99 and 2000 Silverado. THe drivers side mat is the same though on these two Silverados Do you follow?

Didn't you say you had a 2000? If so, ignore the above information, and
select the 2000 new, not 2000 old. Information on the 2001 modifications to
the floor pans will do nothing but add uneeded confusion (as it apparently
has) to the original question.

The floor pan change on passanger side in 01 for Allison so it is different than the 99-00 Sivlerado.
