Post subject: Need help: El Falcon Rough Idling Problem
Archived from groups: alt>ford>falcon (more info?)

Hi all. My 1998 EL Falcon has been very good to me until 5 months ago.
First the car just died off on the road. It wont start. After being
towed into the garage, the mechanic mentioned that my Ignition coil
has reached its expiry date. After the Ignition Coil has been changed
out, the car was very rough at idling. Further diagnostic pointed to
TFI Module and subsequently changed out. The ISC was also changed out
when the car was having difficulty in maintaining the rev timing at
idle.

After all these investments, the car still experience rough idling. I
decided to have all the ignition cables replaced and 6 new BOSCH W9LCX
+ spark plugs installed. These still did not solve the rough idling
problem. The car
tends to cough when at idle after the engine been running hot. I dont
seem to experience rough idling when the engine has been started from
cold. At crusing speed however, there is no problem. I did notice I
am getting 100 km range less with full tank ie. 1 full tank can only
give me 430 km max compared to 550 km I used to get.

Could it be my fuel injector dirty ? Does anyone have any similar
experience in the past with your EL Falcon ? Please help.. I love my
EL falcon.

Hi there,

Sorry to hear of your car woes. I'm a 98 EL owner, too.

All I can offer in the way of help is suggesting to try
http://www.fordforums.com.au

The fuel consumption figures you mention sound really terrible. How many
K's on the clock?

The only thing I ever recall making rough idling for mine was when I had a
vac hose leak coz of a LPG backfire in the header, & a few hoses got blown
off.

Good luck.
Rob
