I also do not see the need for another newsgroup. Like Jerry, I think
JP has hit the nail on the head. I was very leary of the forum in the
beginning, not sure about a moderated situation, but I have seen
little problem with that. And as far as pictures and people's sign off
"boiler plates", I don't see t hat as a problem either. Each time I
go onto the computer to check stuff out, I come here (usually first
since it is first on my list, then the Forum. As has been said it
doesn't take long usually to get through the stuff here, since number
are down. I just ignore stuff that I think I should and go on.

Besides the fact the Forum has a fair moderator, the Forum offers a
universal way to post and view pictures, a structured system (that only
requires a web browser) which allows the newest replies to be easily located
at the top of the list (a problem here if you used Outlook Express via an
ISP service, which sorted messages on the original message date), and a well
thought out layout with technical and general discussions in separate areas.

This Newsgroup has served us well. This Newsgroup system is not able to be
moderated. This Newsgroup is limited in it's ability to take much else but
text. The level of noise here has always been high. It's hard for some to
get access to the Newsgroup.

I think the spam and noise here has less to do with the migration of souls
to the Forum than the limits this Newsgroup places on the ability to post
pictures, diagrams, attachments, etc. If the tone of the moderator ever
changes for some reason on the Forum, watch for the traffic to pick up here
again quickly. If we always have the same level headed, reasonable type of
moderation on the Forum, it may never pick up here again.

You can't check out six bars in 15 minutes though, sitting in the same
chair.

Too many forums dilute the content.
There is nothing wrong with this forum.
It served it's purpose when it was the only game in town.
The more 'alternatives' there are peels away those participants that have
different tastes.
Only if you are stuck (technology wise), or stuck (ideology wise), will you
find that this newsgroup serves it's purpose.
Like a corner bar (an analogy over used many times in the oft posted FAQ),
people come and go.
The interest in any bar is the quality of the conversation and the people.
If most leave a particular bar, and the only people left at that bar are the
hardcore political bitchers, then that will be the dominant conversation in
that bar.
(Not saying that is true here, but if the shoe fits....)
If a new bar opens down the street, and they have a better happy hour, or
the conversations are better...
Then it is no surprise that people move on over there.
If the old corner bar never remodels, of freshens up it's act, then
stagnation sets in and the clientel either leave, or set still and converse
amongst themselves.
I see that here.
But I also see that there are now a hundred cookie cutter bars on the main
drag (due to software programs)...
You drive down the street and see all the names in bright neon...
But you drive on by...
You drive on by unless you know the people hanging out inside, or it has
been recommended by someone you know.
It's not surprising... It's human nature.
The problem now is that we have too many forums, and they are a great waste
of time.
If you have time to waste there... Great!
But is your time spent there really productive?
Does it really promote the marque?
Does it really make your life, or your family life better?
Something to ponder.

That is a good point.
You also can't build a Stude from a chair, or go to a show, etc.
(Somehow it sounds funky saying that you hang out at six bars, though..
<lol>)...
