Just ignore the OT posts. I usually manage to do it, but once in a while I get sucked in.
Happens in the meat world, too, you know.
I think most of the reason the NG is withering is that the SDC Forum is so successful, and
it is easier for most folks to access.
When I'm at a wellsite, I can't always access the NG, but I can access the forum.

Guys, it's too late, the train has left the station. Support the SDC
forum if you want Studebaker talk, drop in here now and then in case
someone drops in a Studebaker post now and then. I stopped duplicate
postings months ago as the NG became mostly off topic.
I'll admit I was concerned about a moderated forum, but Mr. Shaw
seldom does any moderating because it's not needed. You can still brag
about your kid, share personal good or bad news and the like. If you
want to discuss politics, religion or the like, you can jump back
over here.

SDC has an excellent site, but then 'Virtual Studebaker Swap' WAS an
excellent site too, until one day it went away for good. I like to
use the "Don't put all of your eggs in one basket" method.
If you never got a flat, you wouldn't need a spare.
On the downside of the SDC site, too many people insist on closing out
every blog they put on it, by adding some standard 'boiler plate' to
sign off. This really gets bad, when the same photo(s) of their car
is added to it EVERY TIME. That hog of bandwidth, is especially bad
for folks on dialup, who still want to be part of it.
It nice to have photos, but not the same ones dozens or hundreds of
times, when it has no contributing factor to the topic at hand. >> Stay informed about: How hard is it to start a new Google NG? |

It's funny how demented minds think alike. I agree with everything JP just
said.

The only thing a "new" NG will accomplish is to create yet another
split of places to go, thus reducing the attendance at any one place.

Yes, Virtual Studebaker Swap was a different site. It has probably
been gone for four years now. All of this internet stuff is
'virtual' i.e. here today gone tomorrow. The 'Virtual' site played
MIDI music in the background, while viewing the ads. I think it was
extra space on someone's server. Concentric(?) I seem to think it
stopped when the company was sold.

I'm copying and pasting this from my prior post, as you do not need a
newsgroup reader to view this alt.autos.studebaker newsgroup.
From before:
There are many reasons that this site is not as active as it once
was. The SDC forum has attracted many of the Studebaker bloggers.
Some have moved on to other things.
If people don't post here, don't expect much to show up. It is
your
responsibilty to keep the site active.
There has been way too many negative comments here, which have driven
many away. The loss of free internet ISPs knocked out a few of the
cheapskates. Trying to find a newsgroup service can be a lot of
nusiance.
For those reading this on non-Google sites, try this: Open Google,
click 'More' tab, select 'Groups', type: 'alt.autos.studebaker'
<enter> you are here! You can bypass the MI5 and spammers, by not
reading them. Plus, this does not plug your Outlook email box, since
you are not using it at all. If you see something you want to keep,
highlight it by holding the button down and dragging your mouse
across
it, turning the message blue. Go up to the top (in Explorer) and
click 'edit', then 'copy'. Open an email, or document and click
'paste'. Done.
Your turn to post something worthwhile. You need a free Google
account to post, but to read, it is only a matter of showing up here. >> Stay informed about: How hard is it to start a new Google NG? |

I agree about the multiple messages with the same photos that I
have seen before. It isn't just on the SDC Forum, but on some
other groups I read. SDC is certainly the worst, though. I dread the
day when some idiot uses eighteen pages of a service manual (same
pages) as part of hie/her signoff! >> Stay informed about: How hard is it to start a new Google NG? |

To all on this group:
There are other NGs on which I'm active (Antique cars, driving (both
general and UK,) retired military, politics and
others. This is the only
one I've seen where people are polite enough to use "OT." Be smart and
ignore the OT topics. If you open one so marked, your complaining
about it only shows that you you ain't too bright or are looking to
cause trouble. It's as simple as that. (On Google, I think that it's
possible to add "OT" of one starts going that way.) >> Stay informed about: How hard is it to start a new Google NG? |
