Bollocks to that. Fantasy Blue is still the best 156 colour though
there was a similar shade of green (IYSWIM) that runs it a close
second. IMHO! I have never bought a car yet just to enjoy cleaning it!

Nor me. If I had that sort of money, I'd probably see what kind of

Much as I'd like an easier colour to look after - I reckon our 156 looks
perfect in black.
For some reason, the (solid) red ones look a bit cheap, as red usually
does on a big car [1] - although some of the metallics do look good.
Obviously, I'd love one in Nuvola.
[1] Saw a red Passat, the same shape and spec. as mine the other day.
Just didn't look right at all.

I'd go for an Aston, probably. Which is, of course, part of the problem
with the 8C.

Astons are for footballers these days, sadly.
Besides, I know that all low-volume manufacturers have to buy in generic
bits from the big companies - but would you prefer your £100k car with
stalks and buttons from a 159 or from a Mondeo?

Which is what the wife's 147 is being traded in for - a white 500.
Not a girlie one though it has a sport button to make the steering
heavier and the throttle more responsive, the girlie ones have a city
button to make the steering lighter

Oooh, nice.
I have been showing pics of them to Katie, saying she should have one to
replace the 156 in a couple of years, but she's not impressed.
I think I've created an Alfisti monster.

The paint on all red cars fade over time, since they banned the use of lead
in paint.

Watch it, there's two of us...
Actually, I was going to get a black Veloce with leather, but the one the
salesman showed me was spoken for, unknown to him. However, a Fantasy Blue
one was available, and it still looks good 7 and a bit years on, apart from
the wheels which are blistered to buggery.

Due to a severe mishap with a large pothole in the dark, I've
discovered the easiest and *quickest*, though not cheapest, way to
fix that. The 5 hole veloce alloys are 180UKP on 3 day order from a
dealer. Otherwise, it can be between 50UKP and 100UKP to repair and a
long wait from a wheel re-conditioner.

From what I'm seeing, that may not be the ultimate option.
Apparently, the 500 suffers from a fidgety, bouncy ride with the car
being pushed about on uneven road surfaces. The softer suspended
'Lounge' is quite acceptable for this (in its class) but the sport is
showing up as rather poor.
As a girlie *town* car, the 500 Lounge and panoramic roof will excel
but trying to make it something different will take it into areas it
simply isn't competent in right now. 'Sport' mode with the current
slow engine range, performance and handling doesn't sound like a
particularly good fit.
I'll be waiting for the Abarth for a, hopefully, useful attempt at a
'sport' button.

My leaded red painted cars suffered superb blooming too. As Catman
hinted at, red paint absorbs high energy light and deteriorates much
faster than blue paint which reflects high energy blue light.
Due to the length of time manufacturers have had to overcome this
feature of red paint and failed, I assume it's fundamentally
insoluble.
