I just purchased a used 2005 Armada. the engine pings constantly even though I use high test gasoline. the nissan dealer looked at the car and stated the timing is correct. what else could cause the pinging of the engine when driving?

If the timing is correct and the fuel octane is right, then pinging
may imply excessively high combustion temperatures. That could be
caused by a cooling system blockage, spark plugs of incorrect heat
range or possibly a blocked EGR system. How do the plugs look? If
one or more look blistered from excessive heat, then combustion
temperature is the likely cause. Good luck. Al

Local overheating e.g. blocked water channel in the cylinder head or a
damaged exhaust valve that has hot spots due to poor seating. Wrong spark
plug grade (too hot). Very weak mixture (again causes overheating in the
cylinders). So is it OK at first until it's just warmed up but gets worse
later?

shouldn't the ECM set a trouble code?
