It seems that 25 years ago you put an ad in for flatheads or parts for sale
and your phone rang off the hook. Today, flatheads and parts barely get a
yawn from people, therefore, one can only assume that the Flathead is
finally DEAD! This is further emphsized by the lack of posts to this
newsgroup. c'est la vie.

Little,
Perhaps folks don't want to bother with used stuff when new stuff is readily
available. Or just maybe the prices you are asking are a bit steep.
I know several guys in my area who are building flat motors. I see flat motor
stuff moving at swap meets so I would say they are a long way from being dead.
For my motor I will be buying all new heads, oil pump, carb and intake,
ignition, exhaust hedders ETC. I won't risk my fresh rebuilt motor with old
used parts.
Later,

Check eBay for parts, heck I bought a 35 engine and transmission on
eBay, came complete and ready to run - though a bit tired.

Anybody know where to get babbit main bearings poured in the southeast
(Knoxville is home). Have enough good parts to build a 35 engine just
need mains done, crank turned and bored 60 over.

Try here, have done several Babbitt jobs for me including 2

I started hanging around again as I really miss hot rods with pretty flat
head Fords in them. Nothing looks better than a shiny pair of Edlebrock or
Eddie Meyer heads, a tri-power setup and a twin head Wico magneto on a
freshly painted block.

Maybe we can get things back together.

As you can see the flathead is only dead to those who have no sense of
history and those who think the only v8 is the 350.

Ah comeone guys, your bring tears to my eyes. You mean you young guys really
like those old Flatheads? Hell, they didn't start in the cold, overheated on
the way to the beach, cracked cylinder walls and valve seats, Stromberg
carbs pissed more gas out of the gaskets then went thru the carb, old front
mounted distributor sucked up water and died and left you stranded in the
middle of the biggest puddle!!! Is that what you guys are bragging about???

You betcha, I wouldn't have missed any of it for a minute. Something to tell
my grandkids about. The most beautiful sound in the world has to be the
crackle of a set of pea shooter straight pipes backing off of a speed haul.
Damn rights, won't have missed it and would probably never ever die.

Keep stroking, FLATHEADS FOREVER.!!!

My old 53 would always start at -20 F, never had any heat for the
first 10 miles, even with cardboard in front of the radiator..
The 35 starts easy hot or cold, an old flathead if kept up was and is
very reliable, trouble is that since they ran so well they got
neglected until they became crankie, this is what people remember.

Terry

Love the sound of a flathead starter, and the distinctive moan of one
wide open ,,,,,,

probably pay good money for what you are looking for but
flatheads are far from dead, prices show that they are alive and
well....

Yea my 54 ford had steamy windows and it were'nt for an over heated engine.
That old ford would do 85 mph in seconed gear, at least a few times befor a
piston split at the oil ring groove. We called the car puff after that,
becuase a gasoline mix would accumilate in the crankcase then finally
ingnite going PUFF. It would fill up the car with oil smoke each time it did
this. Show me an engine today that runs efficiantly on 7 cylinders.

A buddy purchased the engine and put another piston in it, then put the
engine in an old Gill Netter fish boat.

Flatheads never die.
