My Catera has 2 oil lights and I assume yours does as well- one is
at the "top" of the gauge; this one is an indicator of the oil level
in the engine only. The second oil light is at the" bottom" of the
gauge and is meant as a backup alert to the driver in case of
catastrophic and imminent engine failure because the engine has run
out of oil and the driver isn't paying attention to the gauge.
I don't know which oil light you are referring to and can't give you
much help until I do.
Your comments about the gauge reading are interesting- our Catera
has 160000 km. (100,000 miles) as of this month- the gauge pointer
never gets into the so-called danger zone at the bottom of the
instrument, nor should it ever.
