Post subject: flathead blowing smoke

I just finished a rebuild on a merc flathead(1953) one year ago. I have about 2000 miles on it now, but the center two cylenders on the passenger side are burning oil. it smokes while idling, then really fills the air when i give it gas. I have dual exhaust and played with the diffrent plug wires, and it appears that the center cylinders are both involved. If either one is diconnected there is a noted improvement, and if both are disconnected there is no more smoke. I have a fenton dual carb set up, and exhaust port dividers for the center ports. Any suggestions or Ideas? At first I thought it was taking a little long to break in, but I have plenty of miles, and it is only those to cylinders. I can only think that the oil rings aren't set right on the piston but two pistons next to each other seems odd.
thanks

hey, if you rebuild it yourself and did anything with the rings, you might want to make sure that your ring gaps don't line up, that could be a reason for the oil blow by that you have. the rings should all be rotated about 90 degrees from each other in oposite directions
