Is it possible / practical to just clamp the flexible lines near the caliper
when removing the calipers for servicing? (I am changing the disks, and
servicing the callipers at same time) I don't really want to mess about
bleeding the system afterwards. The lines are metal braided affairs, and
could I use a screwclamp? TY

PS.. TY to all who responded to my post re: electric fuel pump / evaporating
fuel J

Not a good idea.

The lines have a rigid inner hose that will kink or crush when you clamp it.

You will likely ruin the line if you clamp it. Tough it out and bleed the
brakes. If you can rent or borrow (or buy) a power bleeder, you can bleed
the whole system very easily and quickly. It's the only way to go.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

I would not clap a brake hose - especially the costly SS
covered ones. You can get a 1 man brake bleeding kit from
Advance Auto for $10-15. You probably want to exchange all
the old moisture ruined brake fluid anyhow.

I've made plugs for the lines so I can plug them if I have to disconnect
them. Worked for me. I just take a fitting with a piece of line and make
some good crimps in them. Check with an air hose or blow through it.

Clamping the lines is not recommended. A short piece of plastic tubing
stuck on the bleeder valve with the other end in a can of brake fluid
makes bleeding easy to do by yourself.

Try using good old fashioned wooden golf tees!!! This should minimize the
bleeding necessary

One way to stop fluid leaking when removing hoses without attempting to
clamp SS braided / ptfe inner hoses is to seal the top of the master
cylinder reservoir with cling film type material and a rubber band. The
idea being is:- If the air cannot get in then the fluid will not leak out
(too much)
