When replacing the valve cover gasket, should I replace the half-moon
cutouts using FIPG or just leave them alone? No leaks are apparent...

Should be OK to leave, but use the FIPG material at the four points
where the round cam section of the valve cover meets the flat, right
next to those semi circular cutouts.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Just did the VC gasket, FIPG, spk plug seals, PCV valve and grommet today.
17 ft-lbs. Was fun and I was happy to see my cams/valve train had no sludge
or buildup. It was a nice shiny deep wine red though, which I guess is
varnish. (Have pictures, but don't know how to post them). Didn't notice
any wear on the lobes or anything. I use regular 10W-30 at 5,000 mile
intervals. There was a hard brown crusting near the edges of things and in
the oil filler neck, but so what. Thanks "PLS" for all your
help/suggestions. -- Paul
