Truck is a 2WD 22R and has 240,000 miles on it, so time for a 30,000
maintenance. Had a mechanic drain/refill the tranny and differential and
repack the front wheel bearings, and he did a complete brake job too.

Today included:

1) new alternator drive belt
2) new plugs
3) new wires
4) new air filter
5) new gas filter
6) new PCV valve
7) new distributer O ring
Cool new rotor
9) new distributer cap
10) reset timing

Have to adjust the valves some other weekend.

Distributer's been leaking oil for over 10 years now, never took it off
before. Pretty easily actually, crank engine over to 0 degrees TDC,
remove one bolt and it pops out. PITA part was replacing the alternator
belt, had to take the skid plate off to loosen the alternator pivot bolt
on the bottom.

Runs like a top now.

My 84 22R is about due too. Only thing I have to do different is blew
the front oil seal when the bolt that holds the crank pulley loosened
and ruined it a few years ago (didn't want to replace the crank due to a
slopped out keyway) so I have to time by ear. Reckon my mileage might
not quite be what it was years ago, and glad we don't have computers
setting CEL codes due to richness/leanness, but hey runs like a top for me.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Cool. My '85 had 220,000 miles on it when I replaced it 5 years ago.
I didn't need to, but I had moved to the South and wanted A/C -
I got tired of getting to work covered in sweat.

My A/C worked until about 3 years ago, first the expansion box/chamber
was clogged up, so said my mechanic, then the a/c compressor started to
moan and grind when it wasn't being used so I just snipped it's drive
belt. The Fresh/Recirc lever control popped off a the flapper valve
end, then the flap fell off it's hinges and when I turned on the fan for
heat it would flap in the air flow so I removed the blower fan, reached
up there and had to bend the flapper valve, just a piece of metal, and
removed it. Now I have heat only and no fresh/recirc control :-/ My
truck stil runs great though!<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
