| I went to drive to get some lunch but when trying to start the truck, it just wasn't starting. Many times it sounded like it was juuuuust about to but couldn't do, like it was getting gas but barely. Well, finally it started but problems began to arese. First the exuast was venting black smoke, and the truck kept trying to die, thats if i let off the accelerator. It was trying so hard to get gas and it felt like it kept trying to die. I manged to make it home, as long as i didn't go to slow and let off the gas it wouldn't die, but when i would slow down I had to make sure i occasionly kept pushing the gas down. You should have seen my needle on my battery thinging on my controle panel, it would sway left as if it wanted to die ,when i let off gas, then swayed back to the right when i started to accelerate.
The whole way home it was sputtering(not sure if thats the best word), shaking and i was smelling bad odoor. As long as i didn't let off the gas peddle it wouldn't die.I would make it to speeds of 60 mph and it was still going. The faster i went, I think the better it ran as i mentioned about the slowing down part.
Now I've done so messing around and when i took my spark plugs out they were soked with fuel. My system is dumping fuel into the engine, what could be some of cause??

1st quick test: You need a fuel pressure gauge to determine if you are losing residual fuel pressure (after you shut off the engine) and to check operating fuel pressure while you are there (if too high, the vehicle will run rich).
If you are losing residual pressure (needle drops when you turn off the truck), it could be from 3 places:
1) the fuel pressure regulator (pull off the vacuum hose to it and check for raw fuel. if the regulator is bad, you will get raw fuel pumped directly into the intake mani thru that hose).
2) the fuel pump (a check valve could be bad, but that wont cause it to run rich)
3) one or more of the fuel injectors is leaking (stuck open).
Which plugs were wet? All or a few? If a few, I would suspect the injectors in those cylinders. If you can pull the fuel rail and the injectors are clipped into it, you can put paper towel under it, then turn the key to the ON position and wait to see who is dripping after the 2 sec prime. But they have to be the kind that are clipped in, so they don't fall out of the rail.
What make, model year and engine? Do you have access to a scanner? >> Stay informed about: Truck is dumping fuel into engine, ideas on whats up |
