My brother was driving his truck in the mountains and he got high centered.
He was messing with the 4x4 knob or something and now its not shifting into
high 4x4 and he got under it and manually moved it into 4 high. But he says
that its starts going and then it slips back into low.

What should he check? Says it isn't sticking into high 4x4.
Thanks for all your help in advance.

Check linkage externally first to make sure it is shifting correctly. Something may have gotten bent on it and if not maybe he forced it and bend or damaged something internally. Low and high range are on different rails so somthing is not right. Have someone watch linkage while it is worked through selectiond.

Sounds like bent shift linkage, after placing the transfer in neutral remove
the linkage from the transfer case and use a small drill bit to align the
shifter assy. then check and adjust the linkage if necessary.
When you get tired of screwing with that POS 203 find a 205 with adapter,
get the drive sleeve and twin-stick from ORD then swap it out and all your
problems will go away.

The 203 and 205 use a different input shaft spline so if you swap out you will have to change tranny output shaft.

That's funny, i just swapped mine and made no changes to the output shaft
when using
a transfer case from a '82 Blazer with the identical transmission (TH350)
