I was reading the Excellence buying guide on 996s and Anderson
wrote that Tiptronic-equipped Porsches are less prone to RMS failure
thanks to their lack of flywheel. Anyone ever heard any stats on this?

Most of the RMS's that are going to go have done so...or been replaced

the seals were redesigned.
