Again we are screwed by ESPN. Ten minutes after the hour and no drag racing.
Who gives a rats ass about tennis.

Actually, for once ESPN's stupidity actually worked out in my favor.
When I got back from the track, I figured I had missed it. It turns
out it had just started when I turned the TV on. Talk about a good
day! A new personal best at the track, and NHRA drag racing when I
get home! Wink And all it cost was one fried clutch! (special "dumb
ass" award to the water box guy on this one...)

Ken
What did the water box guy do? I've worked the box a few times and I
always feel a little incompetant out there myself.

I'm sure it's a rhetorical question but nonetheless ... the tennis was
excellent. I don't watch it too much but since it was on ....

actually, tennis deals with some of the same things drag racing does
i.e. problems with attracting new people to the sport and problems with
retaining then once they get there. they also have multiple sanctioning
bodies (like all sports) so it's always interesting to see how that's
handled in other sports. I have a friend who is really into the politics
of tennis and I've read some of his tennis magazines and was always
amazed at how similar the "issues" were to the issues in drag racing.

sure, I wish drag racing would've started on time too, but I certainly
don't feel "screwed"

is anyone here who remembers Joel Naprstack saying "I like soccer" on
this ng? Those were the "glory days" of this group IMHO.

Didn't put any water down for me, so I figured there was plenty. Got
up there and backed into the box. One tire got wet, the other didn't.
Pulled out and did a 4 second 1 wheel burnout. Something didn't feel
right. Stopped, revved it to 6k and popped the clutch, but the one ET
Street was already hot and all I did was smoke the clutch. I guess ET
Streets don't need no stinkin water! After all, it ain't like they
are REAL slicks! I SHOULD have backed into the box again before
trying another burnout, but I didn't know at the time only one wheel
was spinning. Now, to be honest, I probably should have known it was
wrong and just cut my losses, but when I looked at him, he just stood
there like everything was fine.

He SHOULD have given me the cutoff signal when the clutch started
smoking as he can see it and smell it 3-4 seconds before I can and he
should have known the box was to dry for the ET Streets. He SHOULD
have put enough water down to get both tires wet the first time.
Thus, a special "dumb ass" award to him.

Maybe I need a crew chief to make sure all this stuff works and get me
lined up properly? Wink

No Posi on that beast Ken?

My wife always did crew chief duties for me, and it was a huge help.
More than once she noticed problems that the track staff did not. Plus,
being strapped in tight in a dragster with the motor behind, it was
always a good feeling when she gave me the thumbs up just before
staging. Thumbs up meant that the car sounded good, wasn't leaking, and
nothing else goofy was going on. Bracket racing is a lot easier with a
second set of eyes and hands.

Hey, ca-ca occurs....

 >No Posi on that beast Ken?

Err, actually I forgot to turn off traction control. I HATE that on
the Cobra. If you turn off your engine, when you start it back up,
traction control is engaged unless you turn it off. So when I
stopped, I turned it off and tried again, and this is where the
problems occurred.

Yeah...if I get into any organized stuff, I will definitely do that.
I can see where it would make a difference. I just don't want to look
like a ricer on TnT night...they have their "peeps" out there, then
run 16 second 1/4 miles! Looks pretty stupid to me! Wink

It's high time NHRA found a real sports network,ESPN & ESPN-2
suck.Putting fag games & foreign crap ahead of real American motor
sports stinks.I for one watch long enough to see who sponsors this crap
& boycott all of it.
