The radio in my '86 BMW 323i has a weird behavior. If I have the radio
on it shuts off when I activate the emergency flashers, and with the
ignition off the radio turns on. With the e-flashers off it works just
as it should, even though the brightness of the display varys with the
turn signal. I'd suspect the acc/igniton feed to the radio is not wired
correctly, or maybe it's a ground problem?

Thanks,

Ulf

I have a similar problem with my '85 320i. Except in my case it's the
heated rear screen that kills the radio (or tape). Also, pressing the brake
pedal with the radio on while reversing blows fuse #9!

 >maybe it's a ground problem?

Could be. I found a lot of corrosion in one of the tail lights and once I
found the water leak and cleaned up the contacts it happened less often.

Sounds more complicated than my problem. Good luck!

Hmm, I have a small bird bath in my trunk because of the right tail
light lens leaking, but I don't see how that can affect the radio and
hazard flashers...

Pull the radio fuse and see what happens.

Not really. I've just learned to reverse without using the brakes Smile

Are you sure it's the lens that's leaking?

It's funny that my car also had a bird bath on the right ... The water was
actually getting in under the boot (trunk) seal somehow. I just sealed a
rusty patch on the boot lid and the bird bath went away. No more soggy
luggage. But the birds were pissed off Wink

It sounds like the ground might be corroded. Both the flasher circuit and
the radio use the same grounding point at G200, which is located just
above the brake pedal. It sounds like the hazzards are trying to find
their ground through the radio. Try cleaning up that grounding point.

That's a good point. Your flasher may be drawing excessive current.
Try replacing it.

Tried that, didn't work. I ended up rewiring the whole thing. Drew two
new wires from the battery( + and - ), which didn't help, and then took
the acc power from the brake light switch. Now everything works great
regardless of the hazard flashers. Of course, the lights behind the HV
controls quit while doing this, but that I can live with...

LOL. Exercising your e-brake is good.

I don't know. It's just that I've read that the lens frequently leaks,
so I assumed that was the problem. I don't really care though since the
lock is busted I never keep anything valuable in there anyway...
