Hi There,

Dodge Grand Caravan 05. About 34K miles.
Recently, right after filling the gas tank engine
dies a second or so after moving.
I have to stop, wait a while, push the accltor
a few time, crank, and let it idle for a minute
or so, and then it drives fine. Until the next
fill up day.
Is this some thing that I need to worry about?

Thanks
Mike

If you are nursing the fuel tank trying to get every inch filled up it may
cause a problem when the purge solenoid opens to purge fuel vapors. It may
be purging a overfilled fuel system causing a very rich mixture and
stalling out. At the next fill up when the nozzle shuts off don't force feed
more fuel into the tank

Thanks for your reply.
I have never done that with this car except once.
In fact, I don't think this caravan allows that.
I did it once the very first time we bought it,
and realized it won't let me do it (keeps releasing
the handle latch).
I now stop fueling the moment latch releases.

I hope there are other reasons for this.

Take the vehicle to the dealer and see if there is a PCM reflash for this
vehicle. The engine computer may need to be updated with new software.
Since you dont specify engine size thats about all the info I can give
you on this. If the vehicle is still under 80k there should not be a
charge you for this.

I also have a 2005 Dodge Caravan and it does exactly the same thing.
After we get gas, usually while we are turning the car stutters and
often just dies. After we re-start it the car runs fine. We have tried
leaving the car running during fueling and shutting it off, same
results. We are not overfilling, when the hose cuts off we just pull
it out, no trying to get a few more drops in. I think there should be
a service bulletin on this. I can't imagine that we have only 2 people
with exactly the same problem.
