I am happy to continue the debate over a Crown Royal or three, mixed in with
a bit of Maker's Mark...

Oh, it must depend on the area of the city, as I was told it's Tronna.

Same offer I made to MoPar Man: I am happy to continue the debate over a
Crown Royal or three, mixed in with
a bit of Maker's Mark...

This thread is confusing me and it's all Kruzer's fault. BTW, it's
Tranna.......and Detroit is just a northern suburb of Windsor.....

And the correct term is "Canada Goose" not "Canadian Goose."

I'm speculating that during conversation, that Torontonian's talking
among themselves would substitute "Toronto" with "the city", as in "Oh,
I didn't know that Joe lived in the city", or "yea, the best strip clubs
are outside the city". I believe that this substitution happens in most
major cities (ie NYC, San Francisco, etc).

For conversations that happen outside the city, the most common slang is
simply "T.O." - pronounced as "Tee Oh". As in "I'm flying out of TO
tommorrow." A much less common term (used more frequently 10+ years
ago) is "the big smoke".

Media broadcasts (most notably sports coverage) infrequently refers to
Toronto as "Hog Town". News coverage frequently substitutes "GTA" for
Toronto (Greater Toronto Area). As in "A cold weather advisory has been
posted for the GTA tonight". A less frequent substitution is "the 416"
(the telephone area code for the core area of Toronto).

Don't have any Maker's Mark, but I always keep a bottle or three of the
Royal or VO on hand, as well as CC (distilled in my home town, where you
can always smell the hops on Riverside drive). Rye and ginger for me,
usually.

I haven't been to Europe since the summer of '06, and haven't been to
the UK since '04 or '05. Probably not much chance of a drink - not even
at Heathrow (I do everything I can to NOT transit through that airport
when flying to europe).

I'll raise a glass to you tonight to ease the pain of digging out of
yesterday's snow storm.

Then I'll raise another one to Chrysler and it's bail-out.

If you live in Toronto, knowledge of the third reality is apparently
optional. Just ask anyone from Calgary or Vancouver Smile.

Don't care for it that much but in this case I'll make an
exception...Especially if it's after a couple of glasses of Maker's Mark...

I am more of a Scotch man, but happily guzzle transatlantic whiskeys, too.

Yes, I eventually worked out what GTA was...

Was in Tronna several times until fairly recently while I was working with a
Canadian company. After I had done all the sights etc I stopped staying in
King Street and 'moved' to Richmond Hill.

"Big Smoke" was used for London as well. Can't do that any more as it has
been cleaned up.
