Archived from groups: alt>autos, others (more info?)

The son of a friend has a 92 Olds with the 3300 engine. Recently the
serpentine belt jumped off. He replaced the belt and the tensioner and the
belt now rides over the back (nearest the engine) flange of the harmonic
balancer pulley. He reinstalled the original tensioner and the belt rides
over the back flange of the harmonic balancer pulley. I have reviewed the
belt routing with his dad and the belt is routed correctly. We can't see an
obvious problem and would appreciate any help with this.

Thanks.

Hey DD,
Honestly this is not a smartassed question,is the belt on correct side
up,if thats NOT the problem use a builders level and go center to center of
the pulley's and finally Ck make sure you have the right belt (again not
trying to be smartassed) do not go by the numbers on the belt or the
mesurement of the belt either go to the parts House OR the olds house for
the correct number
Good Luck

Thanks for the response; all good comments. It turns out the rubber insert
in the pulley on the harmonic balancer had come apart. They replaced the
pulley and all is well.

Thanks again.
