I have a 2005 Malibu LS V6. Today after I just washed it, the check
engine light and the traction off light came on @ the same time. The
message center said "Reduced Engine Power". The engine was idling,
and would stay there while in gear. I called AAA. They came out and
tried to reset the computer, and it still did the same thing. Had to
have it towed. Has this ever happened to anyone else? Any
suggestions?

Thanks, Justin

PCM picked up something that sent it to 'limp' mode probably......normally
that will get you to a shop. possibly the throttle by wire system went down
which would explain not being able to raise RPMS above idle (or at least
thats what i got out of your post as the reason for tow truck). your wash
job may or may not have anything to do w/it.......kjun

I have an 04 that does the same thing. It has something to do with the wheel speed sensor. I think that either the water or something in it at the car wash interferes with the sensor. It has something to do with the traction control and reducing power to the engine. Dont know much more.

Try spraying the heck out of the inside of the wheel where the sensor is with some carb cleaner and then some wire dry stuff.

I have done this twice with succes and now i only was my car by hand!
