I look at the small cars from Chevrolet and they don't seem to be less
expensive than the popular Honda's, Nissan's, or Toyota's....
So the killers are the mid-size cars ? No...the Malibu does not offer a V-6
but weighs an incredible 3415 pounds. Then the Impala offers a
two-valve-head V-6 not competitive with the Japanese four-valve-head V-6's.
Now Pontiac's version of the Malibu (the G6) and Saturn's version of the
Malibu (the Aura) both do offer a four-valve-head V-6 but they cost as much
or more than the popular Accord V-6 or the Altima V-6 or Camry V-6.
But the Ford Fusion offers a four-valve-head V-6 and costs less than the
popular Japanese V-6 sedans. Except that the least expensive Japanese V-6
could be the Mazda 6 and the Fusion SEL second-level-of-trim comes in at
about that same price. Also the V-6 Fusion's have six-speed automatic
transmissions to compare to. But the Fusion V-6 at 3.0 is smaller than the
other four-valve-head V-6's (but that could be perfect for future cars that
weigh less.)
Oh...the V-6 Camry can come in at about the same price as the V-6 Mazda 6
and as the Ford Fusion V-6 SEL second-level-of-trim.
---------------------------------------------------
Now I'll compare rear-wheel-drive sedans:
Cadillac CTS: $35,405, 3872 pounds weight, 263 horsepower, 16/25 MPG.
BMW 3 Series: $33,400, 3428 pounds weight, 230 horsepower, 18/28 MPG.
Infiniti G37: $33,250, 3581 pounds weight, 328 horsepower, 18/26 MPG.
Lexus I250 Sequential: $33,325, 3435 pounds weight, 204 horsepower, 21/29
MPG.
Pontiac G8 V-6: $28,190, 3885 pounds weight, 256 horsepower, 17/25 MPG.
Ford Mustang V-6: $20,430, 3345 pounds weight, 210 horsepower, 17/26 MPG.
Oh...the only two-valve-per-head engine is the Ford Mustang V-6. But the
combination of weight and price makes it noticeable. But the Mustang makes
it's 210 horsepower with a 4.0 engine while the BMW makes it's 230
horsepower with a 3.0 engine. >> Stay informed about: Quick Look at U.S.A. Cars |
