I'm a relative noob to WRC and only watched the last 1/2 of this
season. I love it. Thank you tivo.

Why does WRC have such difficulty getting manufacturers to stay on. Is
it because some of the major brands (Mitsu, Peugot, Ford, Skoda) are
having financial difficulty?

Is it because the viewership is not great enough to justify the
spending for the various brands?

My guess, to get to the top and get the publicity, they needed to spend a
lot of money and is why they were so competitive. To keep this type of
spending up is not practical. Therefore, it will have phases. It's not
just rallying.

From what I understand, the cost of participating is a LOT more than
meets the eye. It's not just providing a few cars and be done with it.
You
need technicians, designers, testers, and much more, not to mention a
ton of spare parts (and these ain't off-the-shelf!) WRC places
tremendous
stress on the vehicles and all the personnel involved.

A factory team gets priority access to resources that a privateer team
simply do NOT have access to, and that costs $$$.

There are a LOT of events in Europe that a manufacturer could spend
their money on, and still get their money's worth in exposure.
