I'm wondering about anti-rattle clips and brake pad dampening material.
Also, it's not a great idea to bend the wear indicator back so it won't
function. How do you know the rotors are fine? Maybe there are hard
spots. Maybe the shoes are not aggressive enough to bite into them. And
if the problem happens "mostly when you slow down", but at other times
too, perhaps there is something else wrong. But I think you are on the
right track by going over the brakes and doing a little better job.
