Well, I had what would otherwise have been a rather gloomy day
brightened a whole, thanks to the thoughtfulness of several NGers.

StudeBob and Dick Steinkamp are at a swap meet in in central
California, and come across a vendor with a bunch of '39-'40 Champion
parts. StudeBob thought of me, and got hold of JP, who sent me an
e-mail with Bob's cellphone number.

I called StudeBob, and had a nice chat with both him and Dick. There
may not be any parts I need there, but it was a real lift to know that
folks are thinking kind thoughts.

Sad chore under way today. Came home Thursday night to find one of the
two cats dead on the floor of the office. I think it may have been
diabetes; he had been drnking a lot of water. Today's chore was to dig
a pile of caragana branches out of a snow bank, stuff an old tire
under them and make a funeral pyre for the late feline, assisted by
some used Studebaker ATF and gasoline. It's burning down some now, and
I'll go back out in a while, and push all the unburned ends of the
limbs into the middle.

Couldn't bury him. The ground is frozen. And the dump doesn't accept
dead animals. Besides which, he deserved better. Needless to say, a
brief chat with Bob and Dick sure helped dispel the gloom.

Some cats are just cats.
Others are a lot more - sounds like that one was.
My feelings go out to you.

Gordon,
My dog a few years ago started drinking bowls of water, then barfed it up
right away, thought like you did, diabetic?,poison?,no!,infected uterus and
found tumors in her breasts.

After emergency surgery,and $1500.00 bucks,she's still here at 14.
Could be it drank or ate something toxic

Gord,
Sorry to hear about your cat. Which one was it (the friendly or not so
friendly one I met when I was there?).

Gord,
Great to talk to you today, but sorry to hear about your cat. We get
pretty attached to our pets. It's tough to loose one.

Kent,

It was Squeak, the shy one, that died. The friendly one, Claws, is
alive and well. Seems a little lonely now.

Thanks for your concern,

Gord Richmond

Gord,
Sorry for your loss. Cats are usually good people.

Sounds like it's new kitten time. They're a lot of fun to watch. A string
and a bit of paper tied on gives whole new meaning to cheap entertainment.

My condolences too, Gord. Our dog got out of an open gate a number of
years ago and disappeared. Tore me up and we never knew what became of
her. You, at least, have some comfort in knowing the kit died peacefully
and at home, rather than under the wheels of a car or in the jaws of a
coyote.
If Trochu has a shelter, maybe you could get a companion for Claws.

Gord, I used to be a cat person and I know how attached we can get to
those little critters. I'm sorry for your loss.

This is kind of corny but it's a really nice thought, and you never know...
