The Goggle search I did for Christine got me thinking. Let's say the
subject of the movie was a 55 Speedster and in 1983 the producers bought
up 2 dozen 55 hardtops of all models and made them into Speedsters.
Would the loss of a few of those cars 20 years ago saved more cars
than were lost ? In my opinion, the best thing that could happen to the
Studebaker hobby would be to have a "Hawk from hell" movie for example,
as painful as it might be to watch the crashes. Cars like Bondo's would
never be harmed in the movie, and the loss of a few patched up project
cars would be more than made up by the interest generated in saving
more. I know I could scare up even a few dozen Avantis parts cars that
could be used in a movie. <g>

I guess as long as they were exactly that; rusted out project cars that were
beyond saving otherwise, but able to be made to look good with a 45 gallon
drum of bondo and some shiny paint. And then after, they should be fully
accessable for stripping for parts after they've done their 'dirty deed' on
the big screen and not consigned to the crusher immediately afterwards.
Then of course, maybe a serial number check be made in the rare event one
happened to be 'special order' like that one-off '56 Golden Hawk that was
sold by Palma-Rhodes and in now in the hands of a member from Idaho. Say
they did a movie with a '57 Golden Hawk as the centerpiece. I'd sure hate
to see a bunch of iffy '57 GH's rounded up and then find out one of them
destroyed was a '400' model.

What would help this situation immeasurably would be for the movie
companies to work with people from the car club for the marque in
question.

Say if they WERE to plan on using '57 Hawks in a movie with wreck
scenes, then call the club, and put out a request for beater Hawks
that could be dummied up to look the part for the wreck scenes. And
any cars offered could be checked against the list of GH 400s, to
ensure that one hasn't slipped through the cracks.
