Need a 1/2 inch thick fan spacer. OR, a 1 and 1/2 inch spacer, which
I don't think was made...the parts book has part numbers but NOT
thickness, so it is of no help.

I have a 1/2 inch one on my Daytona that I got several years ago from
Vern Ediger, so I know they exist. If I have to, I will have one
made, I recon. Just thought perhaps someone had one kicking around.

Forgot to mention that the book has a long list of spacers...but not
identified as to thickness.

I don't recall ever seeing a 1/2" one... but I have a BUNCH of original
Studebaker ones that are close to 1" ...
I guess I'll have to measure one off the car.. I have an aftermarket
from some other car that's probably 2" at least... ..

Two 3/4 inch ones make one and a half, which is what I need. I'll
email you.
Thanks!

I sugegst an electric fan - better gas mileage, better acceleration,
quieter. (The first two are in theory with the last obvious.) I had
one for many years, with it in use about 10% of the time in comuting
in the San Jose area year round. Mine was cobbled out of junk-yard
parts. but off-the-shelf ones should be readily available.

I had a driver-operated switch on mine, but automatic is an easy
option. (I'd go for months in the winter without using it.)

I seem to remember that George knows a little about electric fans..

I can second this. I removed a flex fan from a 350 in a chevy pickup and
installed an electric fan. The truck had a 185 thermostat, I built a
controller which used the voltage across the gauge sensor to turn the
fan on at 200 and 0ff at 195. The fan rarely came on, only when stuck in
heavy stop-and-go traffic or after slowing to 20-30mph after a while at
70mph. Gas mileage went from 10mpg to 11.5mpg with no other changes.
This is a 15% improvement, nothing to laugh at. And the truck was
noticeably quieter. Finally it seems like almost all of the new cars and
trucks have gone to electric fans.

One little caveat - a lot of the fans come with plastic ties which are
intended to be threaded between the core tubes of the radiator and used
to hold the fan on. Don't do it, they will saw holes in the tubes.

I had planned somethting like that and used a normal switch just to
see how it worked. I needed it so seldom that I never bothered with
the automatic one. I don't remember what fuel saving were, but it was
quieter. I
also used a bit of by-passed freeway to test my car every couple of
months. acceleration from 20 to 60 (IIRC) in top ear then do it the
other direction. If all held steady with records of past tests, I
didn't touch the engine.
