We have two Lexus - an RX330 (05) and an ES 300 (03). The key from
either car will open the door of either car - not the clicker, you have
to put the key in the door. Either key will fit the ignition of either
car but the wrong key will not start the wrong car - we found this out
by accident when we couldn't start the car one day and finally figured
out the problem. Is this normal or do we have an unusual situation.

I think your situation is not normal. Most people do not have two Lexi.
One path of questions does pop up, of course - will the right key start
the right car? Or will the right key start the wrong car? Or will the
wrong key start the right car? It does sound like the clicker works
properly, and does not imitate a klacker. That would really be bad.
Good luck!

Since there are NOT an unlimited number of key codes available,
depending on your point of view it is just (un)lucky coincidence that
your '03 and '05 have the same code. Nothing unusual with that when you
think about it.

Actually, the right key starts the right car and the wrong key does not
start the wrong car. This is good I guess. Actually it turns out to be
a good deal because now we have two keys to open either car in case we
lock a key in the car. I just don't want any one elses key to open
either of my cars. I will ask the dealer about it.
