My father lives near Dallas, Texas, and recently bought a Gazelle kit car.
He has run into a problem finding insurance for the car in Texas, so he
cannot register or operate the vehicle.

Can anyone offer any suggestions where he can obtain insurance for a kit
car, or "assembled vehicle?". He has a perfect driving record and a no
claims history.

Please email me directly at knorman.RemoveThis@sbcglobal.net

I had the same problem. Progressive Ins came the closest for me at somewhere
in the neighborhood of $1100/6 mos. I took a closer look at my own driving
record with no accidents or tickets and decided to just do the PLPD option
for $220/6 mos. I take the car out 2-3 times a week and just keep driving
defensively. The biggest critter in traffic is don't let all those
headturners distract you:-) My regular insurance company, Farm Bureau, kept
throwing up roadblocks and other crap in my path to have them insure the
car, same old story, don't want the risk on a kitcar.

Most standard insurance companies won't touch you. If they do -
like Progressive - their rates are outragous. Look to specialty
companies like AON and Grundy.
AON/K&K insures my '66 Mustang for $100 a year. Grundy quoted me
$365 a year for my Cobra kit car.
Go to the forums on <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.ffcobra.com" target="_blank">www.ffcobra.com</a> and do a search on insurance,
and you'll get a couple of hours of reading material.
Also, go down and get a copy of Kit Car, Kit Car Builder, or Street
Rodder magazine, and you'll find insurance ads.

Try Hagerty Ins. -- 1-800-747-5348 - they insure alot of Porsche Sppedster
replicas and are reportedly reasonably priced.

I recomend Grundy. I had 4 cars insured with them (liability &
comprehensive) with a total stated value of over $40,000 & it cost me $245
per year. They have to be stored inside, & cannot be used for work
transportation or errands. Unlimited mileage, though. I didn't have
collision 'cause I built them & can fix them.
Since my website Screwed By insurance is temporarily down due to lack of
hosting funds (& complete apathy in this country) check Hemmings (.com)
for the Grundy phone #.
