Ok, so here's the problem; My IAV doesn't compensate for load when I turn on
the A/C. It just goes from 840rpm down to 640 and stays there. Same thing
with the A/T. Put it in drive and it drops to 640 and stays there. I cleaned
the valve, also quick checked it by pulling off the coolant temp sensor
harness and the engine indeed surged and returned to normal. I'm trying to
determine where the communication breakdown is, but I thought I'd ask the
general question to see if anyone had any experience with this exact
problem. Thanks

'97 Jetta, erratic idle - Jetta GL with 2.0L engine surges when idleing, rpms go up and down. When comming to a stop the the engine is around 2000rpms and then slowly drops to normal and begins hunting up and down from 1000 rpms. Checked vacuum lines, etc did not see anything..

1997 Jetta Problem - The wife and I own a 97 Jetta. We have had some problems with it but overall we are very happy with its performance. I will relate the short version of the story and perhaps some of you may be able to give me some direction on where to go or what to do...
