I have a 99 Malibu. The lights are fairly good on high beam, but I find
them a little weaker than I would like on low beam. I am curious if anyone
has tried different light bulbs in the Malibu and what their success has
been? I don't want to be ridiculously bright (because there is nothing I
hate more when I meet on-coming traffic).

If you have found a bulb you like, could you let me know roughly what they
cost, and where I would get them from?

Chris

I use slyvania Silverstar bulbs. They are a little expensive
50 $ for 2 but they are the best/legal that you can get.

Thank you,

Is there a noticeable difference between factory bulbs and Silverstar? I
assume they are easy to install. Does installation of new bulbs require
realignment of the lights?

Chris

It's a whiter, cleaner light.
I put a set in my GF's '02 Malibu low beams.
I usually use PIAA bulbs in my vehicles but I wanted to try a set of
Silverstars so her car was the test vehicle. I still like the PIAA's better
but the Silverstars are close and they are easily gotten over the counter
compared to the PIAA's.
No alignment needed, just pop out the headlight housing, repl. bulbs and pop
back in.
Clean the bulbs with alcohol before putting them in, I don't care if they
are new as I've had new ones fail due to oils on them from the factory.
Don't touch the glass after cleaning.

How much would a real HID conversion kit cost me for my 2004 Malibu Classic,
also how much would it cost to convert the rear lights to LEDs?

I would go with the Silverstar.
The Blues look neat but the more blue less white color seems be absorbed
more by dark objects like trees, etc. and to me there is less light being
reflected back than with the whiter Silverstar bulbs light.
