Yes, when I apply power to the pump it works correctly and the wiring
appears to be intact. I replaced the column unit at the suggestion of
the local Ford dealer, who mentioned that the unit is often the source
of this problem. The unit was ready to be replaced anyway as the turn
signal control was getting pretty loose and wouldn't "click" and lock
into position when signalling to make a turn. I suspect that the wiper
control module (which behind the glove compartment on the passenger
side of the vehicle is now the best bet as the source of the fault...I
just hate this "trial and error" method of resolving electrical issues
.
