I get alot of brake dust all over the rims of my '01 1500 Ram. Brakes
were about worn out at about 50,000 miles so replaced the pads about
5,000 miles ago. Still lots of dust. Front rims are covered after
about 2 days after a wash. Always been that way though.

I just installed ceramic brake pads from Advanced Auto Parts about a month ago.
The do make a difference and stop great.

The only time I have to "clean" my front wheels is after driving in the rain on
the highway. The ceramics do dust the wheels, just not that dark color as with
standard pads.

I just installed them too along with a new set or rotors and while the do
work well, they are a bit cost prohibitive. I am beginning to doubt if my
rear brakes are doing anything at all when pulling the drum at 93,000 and
the shoes still look like new. Now I just have to figure what the hell is
wrong with the rear ABS that keeps turning the damn light on.

I found it necessary to adjust the rear brakes by hand at each oil change.
Makes a world of difference.

While this may be true, it is a PITA to remove the drums at every oil change
to adjust the brakes and since there is no visible wear on then anyway, I
don't know if doing that would have any effect.

All the ones that I've worked on have the window in the backing plate in
line with the star wheel.

If they aren't showing any visible wear and you don't think they are
doing anything, I'd think they definitely need adjusting . . .
depending on how long they've been run, of course.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Actually, you don't need to remove anything to adjust the rear brakes. There is a way to do it
by just crawling underneath. I'll have to crawl under again to tell you exactly where the access
port is.

But anyway, back to brake pads...I've just ordered pads from EBC and have been informed that
these are clean, quiet, and are "performance" pads. My biggest concern is quiet and clean. Anyone
here ever use EBC pads on their 2500?

Please don't get my portion of the thread of topic. I'm looking for some input, not
bashing. Maybe a bashing thread could be started where you guys could have it out
with each other and the rest of us can stick to the topic in other threads.
