Hello everyone. I have a 2000 Cougar. The alarm system has suddenly decided
to stop working. The batteries in the keychain thing-a-ma-jiggies are new.
The red lights that's on the dash (which usually blinks off & on again) is
now staying on all the time. Although if you look at it closely, you can
tell that it's still "pulsing" as the red light goes from dim to bright and
back to dim again at the same pulse that it normally flashed at. Also, the
auto door lock feature has stopped working. Press the lock or unlock button
and nothing happens. However, you can manually lock the drivers door and
that will automatically lock the passenger's door. It's almost as if the
alarm is stuck in limbo between on and off. Other than these symptoms, the
alarm/door locks don't give me any problems. The car starts, drives and
shuts off normally.

Anyone had this problem before? Any thoughts on what might be the problem?

Sean

by now I'm guessing you got this fixed? It just happened to me last night
(I was assuming cold weather did it). Did you brakes make a clicking
noise in the center shift panel when it happened? would love to know why
this happens.... k

Had the same problem (except mine was caused by a bad FOB). You're fuse
si blown. Replace the fuse, then lock & unlock your car (with the key
if necessary).

Post subject: 2000 COUGAR AUTO LOCK / ANTI THEFT SYSTEM [Login to view extended thread Info.]

I am having this same exact problem. The anti-theft system light on the dash suddenly started staying on continually although it does seem to pulse somewhat if you look closely. The keyfob buttons do not work (new batteries). Finally realized that the 20 amp fuse that controls auto locks was blown, but each time it is replaced, it almost immediately blows again. Also having the slight clicking noise when the brakes are used, sounds like it is coming from the center shift panel. Have tried everything we know to diagnose this without taking it to the dealer. Any suggestions?
