Well, it had to happen sooner or later....

After 10 years of ownership and a LOT of happy miles, I decided it was
time to let the Pace Car clone convertible find its way to a new home
(and it almost did). With the purchase of the '63 R2 4-Speed
Wagonaire in September, I knew I had to let one car go and the Pace
Car was the least rare of what I have here so it drew the short straw.

I cleaned it up a bit (did not need much) and took the e-Bay photos
and listed it 3 days ago. Last night, I got a call from a guy who
wanted to come and look at it in person before bidding. He showed up
today at noon and, lo and behold, it was the son of the guy I bought
it from 10 years ago! HIS son saw it on e-Bay and just knew it was
grandpa's old Studebaker and he was right. Rocky made the trip up
and looked it over, heard it run and told me some fun old car stories
then went home to see if he could talk his wife into one more car. It
seems he did because he just hit the Buy It Now.

I am really glad to see it go somewhere that it will be cherished like
a family heirloom (since that is basically what it is to them) and
wish him many happy years of ownership and miles traveled.

A happy ending. Rather nice to see it go back home.

Congrats Lee! I still know where my first car is an would love to have the
old girl back My 64 Daytona is being driven by a 21 year old and has had the
car since he was 15. He is one of the new generation that another NG was
hoping to get involved with Studebaker's. I know my old Daytona is well
looked after and know that he would never sell it back to me too!

My first Studebaker was my Dad's last new Studebaker... a 1962 Lark
Regal convertible. He gave it to me on my 16th birthday and I still
have it, may never get it restored, but am damned sure I'll never sell
it!

I bought Dad another '62 Lark Regal convertible and, someday soon, I
hope to have it done and sitting in his garage.... When he is done
with it, I'd like to have that car back.

What a nice ending to a potentially sad tale - don't worry, another 62
Daytona is likely to find it's way to you eventually. I really like that
car....

Thanks Pat... I really like the car as well and, if we get a nice day
or two, I may have to take it out one more time before he picks it up.

Actually, the guy who bought my '57 Golden Hawk is from the LA area
and has a '62 Lark HT, rust free, of course, that he is interested in
selling and make me a good offer on the car, delivered to Fort Wayne
as he is coming after the GH soon. I am seriously considering buying
that car and am waiting for pictures.

I can't tell you how relieved I am that it was not the cop car. I probably
would have the discipline to let it pass, but it sure wouldn't have been
easy!

Debbie really wanted me to sell her car, the cop car, instead of the
Daytona.... As I told her, the convertible was NOT a real pace car
and nowhere near as rare as the cop car is (being one of 8 known
survivors of 22 built). She reluctantly agreed but that is not to say
the cop car won't get sold someday.

I may try to buy my cop car back, he's not done much with it in two years.

Lee,

I'm really surprised that you sold the convertible, my guess is that you'll have a case of seller's remorse in the near future.......

BTW if anyone is serious about buying a Pursuit Marshal, Dave Dow of Windsor, VT has his 1964 R1 for sale (the last I knew). It was originally a Maine State Police car. I believe he is asking around $12,000. It's on the cover of the March 2006 Turning Wheels.
