I'm attempting to rebuild a 60 Champ from the ground up. Can someone
tell me if a 289 is acceptable in the Champ (I assume it is, but I'd
like to hear it from some experts) and what Stude manual
transmission(s) are acceptable to mate to it?

Can I put any 289 in the Champ (assuming the 289 is a correct engine
for the Champ)?

I appreciate the help in advance!

For the 60 a 289 or 259 would be correct. 3sp w/wo OD and automatic but no
T-10 (4-speed)

289 is fine, AT, 3 speed or 3 speed OD, or 4 speed truck is 'correct',
but a T-10 4 speed works fine. I'm not sure about the 5 speed in a T cab.

According to the parts book, 5spd OD not available till 1961 (6E)in 1/2
and 3/4 tons(6E7,6E12).
The 4 spd truck tranny used in Champs is a T-98A.

5spd OD was not available until the next model year, but it would work just
fine

On the 60-62 V-8 Champs, there is a special throw out bearing shaft (clutch
release, the one in the bellhousing that the throw out bearing rides on),
unique to just those years. All other V-8 trucks use a different, more
abundant one. Something to keep in mind. It took me quite awhile to find one
when I was coverting a 62 Champ from a 6 cylinder to a V-8
