Archived from groups: alt>trucks>chevy (more info?)

I keep seeing a new tv commerical that shows a VERY COOL yellow chevy
truck backing on a moving transport truck trailer.

It looks kind of like an old 53 chevy in the front and has a rounded
look to it.

I can not find any info or pictures of it on the web.

Does chevy have a new truck out for sale that looks like that?.....If so
I WANT ONE!

Thanks
Patrick

Go to www.chevy.com the flash intro is all about that really cool truck,
plus it's spattered all over their homepage. It's called the Chevy SSR.

Saw one at my dealership, in Western pa...Lots of horsepower, v8, and I saw
something about Smoking Asphalt...maybe that was the color. It also had a
plastic
convertable top, that folded behind the seat!! Also the bed is covered with
, a intergral
cover. Inside has some old type knobs...All that for $42,000...I guess I'm
getting old,
but this didn't seem what I wanted...but if you got the bucks, you better
get one, because they
are only gonna make so many of them!

We just got the first one in our dealership. Bright yellow.
Of course, we all stood around it for a while, just watching
the hard top retract. It's a work of art, but I certainly won't
be buying one.

It has the 5.3 engine, but it's slightly different from the
truck engine. This one is all aluminum, instead of the
cast block that the truck engines use.

Bit of a side note: that same all aluminum 5.3 engine
comes in the new extended TrailBlazers. We've
already replaced one of these engines for a rather
nasty cracked block. I've heard of another in
the city being replaced for this problem...hopefully
it's not the beginning of a bunch of these engines
having cracking problems. You can see the
crack in this picture:

That engine looks like it had some other issues. Or is all that
garbage on the pistons from the crack in the block?

I'd be curious as to what the symptoms and diagnostic was on this
particular failure.

Symptoms were a noisy engine. Sounded like a lifter.
The tech fooled around for a bit, and then pulled the
valve cover. Valve cover had the usual white milky
scum that you would have seen on a 3100/3400
engine with coolant in the oil. Passenger side head
was pulled with the assumption that a head gasket
had failed. We have seen a number of head gasket
failures on the truck engines, but it's usually a split
gasket to the "outside" of the engine...not an internal
type of leak.

Nothing obvious was seen when the head came off,
until someone noticed the crack. From there, it
was install a new engine. Which is quite nasty by
the way. I thought the I6 was bad enough, but
the v-8 in the Trailblazer is just plain nasty.

Garbage? Oh, you mean the black carbon? That's
normal here in Canada. And this engine only had about
6000 klms on it.

I've seen them on TV on TRUCKS they are making 25 special edition models
that are numbered.Yeh they are cool lookin! But they seem to be priced
for only the rich! Very impracticale. Am I getting old, I don't think
so. Why in the world could'nt they make something that looks like that
but in a PT Cruzer still throw a V-6 or small V-8 option and sale them
for around $25G and offer a panel van model so everyone could cruz in
one!!!! I know I'll get sick the first time I see a highschool kid
driving one that mom and dad bought him!!!

Would hate to see what the pistons in my old truck looked like, after
115,000 miles, or what the ones in my newer truck look like now, at
62,000 miles. I'm in NY, so we PROBABLY have similar issues...
