i just had my water pump done to fix a persistent coolent leak.
Prior to the job, and afterward, the Check coolant message on the
diagnostic pops up.

The car doesnt heat up,......the leak is fixed, and it is filled
with Dex coolant. That said, is there a way to reset it so the lite
doesnt come on? Info reset buton?

curious,

g

The radiator may be filled but does the overflow tank also have the proper
level of coolant in it?
It is not uncommon for trapped air to bleed out into the overflow, making it
necessary to add to it a couple of times after a radiator job. Since that
is the first place that the level (normally) gets low, I suspect the sensor
is in the overflow tank.

AFAIK that indicator is not resettable.......except by getting the coolant
level (in the overflow tank) up to where it should be.

Failing that, ask the person who replaced the pump. Wink

Ok,..so how do i get a peek into the Radiator? If i take off the
vinyl cover it has over the radiator/battery and such,..will i be able
to see it? Thanks in advance for all responders,...... i ll also

Ken is 100% correct.

You have to check the pressurized "Surge Tank". On a cold system, twist
off the cap (which is just like a radiator cap), and with a flashlight,
check the coolant level. It should be about 1.5" below the filler neck.

If the coolant level is just about right and you still have the warning on
the DIC, the sensor is likely shot or its electrical connector is broken,
loose or corroded. It's down at the front bottom of the tank. If the sensor has
gone south, you'll have to replace the Surge Tank (it comes with the sensor).

Mine Northstar at 140K has a cylinder
head coolent leak. If you start loosing coolent even though there
is know leaks in hoses or radiator system that is what is happening.
I know this because I have been fighting this battle for a year
know and finally figured it out. It starts out with rough starting idle
and then clears up quickly (water in cylinder). I finally figured
it our one morning after seeing my mon start the car and
white water vapor (more than std catillitic converter moisture)
spewing out the exhaust. Went down to the auto store and purchased
"Stop leak" and followed the directions and pured the stuff in the
radiator filling system and the problem went away. I've been driving
it for about 5k miles and its still OK but I know the head gaskets
need replacing.

Note that I did have a radiator leak prior to this and thought that
was my problem (Cracked plastic side) but like youstill kept
loosing water. I also repalce all the hoses. Some hoses are a
pain to replace. After I knew it was not a hose I came to the
above conclusion!

Bella is correct. I had the same problem on my Northstar Cadillac.
The sensor in the plastic tank gets a coating of slime from the Dex
Coolant and there is no way to get to it to clean it. The only
solution is to replace the tank. Fortunately it is neither difficult
nor expensive.
