A Hilo, Hawaii Chevrolet dealer used a Suburban with monster tires to
crush a Honda, and later a Hyundai. The truck blew a hydraulic line
after the first attempt and took hours to repair. The crushing itself
was anti-climactic.
The far-thinking dealership manager said: "We'd like to send the
message that the best way to support your country is to buy an
American vehicle today."
Along with flaunting the root cause of automakers' problems (ego
guzzlers and spotty quality), this dealer probably thinks the
recession-based oil price drop means oil is "infinite" again and
should be wasted at will. Many greed-heads get offended when asked to
conserve anything. It's all "owed" to them because they are the chosen
ones. Ego trumps evidence 9 times out of 10.
Predictably, the drop in oil demand and subsequent lower prices have
caused fat SUV sales to spike in America. The buyers are $heeple who
don't know the first thing about petroleum geology. Money was trying
to tell us something about oil this summer but the lesson has already
been lost. Short attention spans are the norm in society.
FINITE resources get scarcer every second at ANY price, but America's
conservation ethic is mostly price-driven; just take whatever seems
affordable at the moment. It's the same mindset that led to the sub-
prime mortgage crisis and this whole economic mess. Mindless growing
hordes of takers who measure success by how much junk fills their
trophy homes.
Many of these same fools see global warming as a non-issue, per their
ignorant Creationist beliefs. "Drill, baby, drill, because The Rapture
will pull us all skyward and nothing will matter."
