Does anyone have any suggestions for a kit that could be built by a
motor-mad (builds lawnmower-engined go karts) 16 year old, and insured and
run at a sensible cost when he passes his test?
Obviously it would need to have some credibility, not look like a noddy car.
Thanks,

Look at
www.robinhoodsportscars.com
they are about as "resonable priced" as you'll get and the Sierra donar will
be cheap too.
the make Lotus 7 replicas, is that like a noddy car?

Thanks Vertuas,
I think the problem with that would be engine size and insurance, I think he
would need a kit based on an engine size of 1.0 litre or less.
L7 rep is fine.

You can get the donar sierra for about 250 quid.......cheaper from scrappy
propably.
You could put a ford 1.0 litre engine in, say from a fiesta or 1.25 zetec
from a KA, you'd just have to make sure it goes into a suitable gearbox
Usually you can make or have make an adaptor plate beteen the engine/geasbox
to make then fit togeter. Its just a bit of metal plate with a big hole in
the middle and bolt holds around it.
There is a kit based upon the fiesta XR2, but you could use a 1.0litre.
Some others :
L& rep can use 1.25 zetec :

Quantum 2+2, nice comvertable based on Fiesta XR2, but could build on 1.0L i
guess. Could uprate it later on.
http://www.quantumcars.co.uk/showroom/2plus2/
these two are more expensive though.
