Hi ...We've just purchased a Nissan Primera that has the (I think its the
Alpine, but I could be wrong..hubby is @work so I'm not sure) CD changer and
it is showing as an "CD Error" on the stereo LCD whenever we want to use it,
we have looked in the handbook that came with the car but it just says "if
this prob persists contact Nissan Dealer" of course we dont know if it is
just our incompetance at using this as it is all new to us.....hubby is
gonna be taking the cd changer out to look see if there is any cd's from
previous owner stuck in the unit when he gets home from work...........the
unit won't eject either so my guess is that there is one stuck or its naff
!!.,.. but your opinions would be very welcome please
TIA

What year and model primera?
I know my 1994 SGX model had a Clarion head unit/changer.
If that's the case, I'll post more about my trials and tribulations a
little later...

That's actually the CD Magazine then... not the CD Changer... Look
under/behind the CD Changer for the Model number! Or it might be on the
front flap...
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.clarionworld.co.uk/stock/cd_mag.asp" target="_blank">http://www.clarionworld.co.uk/stock/cd_mag.asp</a>
My guess therefore though, you might have a CDC634 or CDC635 - a little
silver CD Changer, or it might be something branded by Nissan... I don't
know Im afraid. Never done any major work with that one.
I used to have an old CD Changer, that the rollers would become stuck
and not push the CD back into the magazine to eject... so I would get a
small knife and just encourage the CD back in, which would eject the CD
magazine and I could then dust off the rollers. I had to replace my CD
Changer after a while as it just got "stuck", rusted, and mistreated and
stiff.
I wouldn't recommend this with your CD player, since it's a completely
different mechanism to the one Im familiar with... but I've got some
instructions at home, I'll see if there's some kind of emergency release
or something!
You could always buy one off eBay... if you have a the round C Bus type
of connector, look for CDC634 on eBay... you can buy replacement
changers for anywhere between £10 and £50. Im selling one myself as a
matter of fact, but I wont provide a link cos I don't want to spam.

Hehe. No wires to connect as such to these things if it is a proper
Clarion... Just connect a lead from head unit to CD Changer, that should
already be there if there's a CD Changer. This lead carries all the
power and grounding and audio it needs! Just "plug and play" with a bit
of drilling holes if needs be to mount it correctly.
I personally just stick mine on a shelf at the back, vertically sitting
behind a strap in the boot, with a sponge between the car and the
changer, which gives a bit of angle to load and unload the thing, and
provides extra cushioning for those bumpy roads!
Now, CD Changers, you can get them new:
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.clarionworld.co.uk/stock/cdc634.asp" target="_blank">http://www.clarionworld.co.uk/stock/cdc634.asp</a>
Or from eBay:
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://search.ebay.co.uk/CDC634" target="_blank">http://search.ebay.co.uk/CDC634</a>
Hope that helps.
Of course, if you don't get any joy, you could always unscrew the thing
and have a look around inside, see if a CD has got stuck.
Other thoughts than run through my mind... is it a tape head unit, or a
CD head unit? If it's a CD head unit, could be that the CD changer isn't
connected, and it's complaining about the CD in the head unit. If it's a
tape head unit, well, then at least you know it can see the CD Changer!

Thanks simon
We have found the problem...my hubby took it apart and there is a small
plastic cog that has a tooth missing (it is one of approx five cogs) so that
it cant take the CD out of the cd tray and into the laser.........so if
anyone has any ideas where any spare cogs could be obtained either from
scrap machines or spare parts suppliers I would be very grateful

Contact Clarion and give them the model number and ask for the part.
